About Lucy & Joe

What we are all about...

We’re Lucy and Joe — a husband and wife team based in Lazonby, Cumbria. We run our small workshop around family life, crafting thoughtful products using wood with meaning. Our story began years ago, in the same studio where Joe’s dad ran Croglin Toys — crafting wooden toys by hand, with care and character. That sense of craft has stayed with us.

Today, we create practical, personal products using locally sourced or meaningful timber. We’re proud to work with local shops, estates and brands that share our values — crafting things that tell a story, last well, and feel like they’ve always belonged.

What We Make

From coasters and bookmarks to card holders and serving boards, we make practical items that feel special. Everything is handmade by us, using British timber — often locally sourced or reclaimed. We focus on quality, character, and function. No mass production, no short cuts. Whether it’s a one-off gift or a small batch for a hotel or estate shop, our products are made with care and made to last. We love working with people who value craft, detail and design — people who want something honest, local and beautifully done.

Our Ethos

We make things slowly, properly, and with purpose. Everything is crafted in-house using sustainable wood — often offcuts or timber from local estates. We care about the details: the feel of the grain, the finish, the usefulness. Nothing leaves our workshop unless we’re proud of it. We’re not about trends — we’re about things that last, things that matter. That applies to how we work too. We keep waste low, avoid plastic, and use simple, eco-conscious packaging. Our values shape everything, from the materials we choose to the partners we work with.

Working Together

We love collaborating with people who care about craft, materials and meaning. Whether you’re a hotel, estate, retailer or brand, we can design and make thoughtful wooden items that reflect your values. We offer short runs, commissions, and bespoke products — all made in Cumbria, using sustainable timber. Past projects include coasters for The OMM, keyrings for the local Westmorland estate, and keepsakes for family homes. Every job is personal to us, and made with care. If you’ve got an idea or a story you’d like to bring to life, we’d love to chat.

A Family Tradition

Joe’s love of making started with his dad, who ran Croglin Toys for over 35 years. He hand-built wooden toys with clever moving parts — the kind that were tested (thoroughly) by Joe and his siblings, and now his grandchildren. Built to last, finished with safe paints, and made from local timber, they were crafted with care long before sustainability became a trend.

Croglin Roots

Croglin is and where it all began. Joe’s dad worked from a workshop there, and it’s where Joe first picked up tools and started learning. BUD is now based in Lazonby, just a few miles away, but the roots remain strong. Craft over trends, purpose over mass production, and a deep respect for local materials — it all started with Croglin, and it’s shaped everything since.
