Each step of the process
It all starts with the wood – often fallen trees or offcuts with a story. Once dried, we cut and shape each piece by hand, letting the grain guide us. We make simple, useful things like bookmarks, coasters and boards, finished with natural oils and plenty of care. Nothing rushed, just thoughtful making.

BUD Designs creates handmade wooden gifts and homeware from our small workshop in Lazonby, Cumbria.
From bookmarks and coasters to serving boards and bespoke commissions, everything we make is crafted with care, using sustainably sourced or salvaged wood.
Each piece is cut, shaped and finished by hand – designed to be simple, useful and full of character. Whether it’s a storm-felled tree, a family offcut or a fallen branch from a garden, we give wood a second life through thoughtful design and careful making.
We’re a husband-and-wife team, and everything is done in-house – from the first cut to the final oiling. No two items are exactly the same, and that’s the point. Our products carry the marks of the wood’s natural story and the hands that made them.
